CAR Housing Foundation Helps Dig Homeless Shelters Out

-

Englewood, CO – February 5, 2007- The Colorado Association of REALTORS® (CAR), through its Housing Opportunity Foundation (CARHOF), is responding to weather-related emergency needs at three Denver area homeless shelters with a combined grant of $30,000.  Sub-freezing temperatures, combined with frequent snow storms have forced thousands of additional homeless families and individuals to seek these services thus placing severe economic strain on the resources of all three organizations.

The emergency funding will go to the Denver Rescue Mission, Volunteers of America and the Samaritan House.

The Samaritan House will receive the largest portion of the grant, $15,000, to help replenish resources depleted due to the weather.  The shelter opened its overflow space to an additional 454 men, women and children. The unanticipated provision of food and other items over an extended period has significantly reduced the agency’s resources.

The Denver Rescue Mission and Volunteers of America will each receive $7,500 that will help them continue to shelter and feed the chronically homeless, seniors and disabled individuals.

The Colorado Association of REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation (CARHOF) is a nonprofit foundation designed to assist housing efforts across the state.  CARHOF is part of the Colorado Association of REALTORS®, the largest real estate trade association in the state, representing more than 26,500 members.
