Common-Sense Legislation Will Allow County to Support Local Economy, Jobs By Expanding Workforce Housing

WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 19, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Mark Udall, a senior member of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, welcomed the committee’s vote today to pass legislation he championed to help Summit County support local businesses and jobs through expanded workforce housing. The Lake Hill Administrative Site Affordable Housing Act would convey 40 acres of federal administrative land from the U.S. Forest Service Dillon Ranger District to Summit County and allow the county to build more affordable, workforce housing.

“Without workforce housing, businesses and job creators in communities throughout Summit County are at risk of losing their competitive edge. That’s why I have been proud to champion this common-sense proposal to support jobs and boost businesses along the Interstate 70 corridor,” Udall said. “This is an important development, and I will keep fighting to ensure the U.S. Senate passes this bill and supports Colorado’s High Country economy.”

“Wow, we can’t believe how quickly Senator Udall is moving the Lake Hill Affordable Housing Act through the Senate,” Summit County Commissioner Dan Gibbs said. “We are very grateful to him for his efforts and focus. Moving our bill from the Energy and Natural Resources Committee to the floor of the Senate is really quite an accomplishment. Thank you Senator Udall. This bill is a positive step in addressing our affordable housing needs in Summit County.”

Udall has been a longtime supporter of the Lake Hill Administrative Site Affordable Housing Act. He hosted a public comment period on the bill in May and championed the bill during a November hearing of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests and Mining.
