Jim Theye of Kentwood City Properties Works Closely with Non-Profit Organization that Meets Monthly at Kentwood’s Downtown Office

DENVER, CO – April 5, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — LoDo Cares, a non-profit community service program, is making a huge difference on downtown Denver and its residents through a broad spectrum of special community events and charitable endeavors that have made LoDo Cares a model for connecting communities. With help and guidance from Jim Theye, Managing Broker and co-owner of Kentwood City Properties, and others, LoDo Cares is conducting numerous events that will help the less fortunate while inspiring others to advocate growth and revitalization in LoDo and surrounding Denver neighborhoods.

LoDo Cares is the philanthropic of arm of the LoDo District, Inc., the organization charged with preserving and protecting the Lower Downtown Historic District, and represents a collaboration between the business-minded LoDo District and the Lower Downtown Neighborhood Association (LoDoNA). LoDo Cares meets each month at Kentwood City Properties to review completed events, plan for others, and brainstorm about how to better serve the community.

“One of our favorite summertime events for the Barth Hotel entailed closing down the block at 17th and Blake in order to cook hamburgers for the Barth residents,” said Theye. “The Barth Hotel is an assisted living center that houses 62 low income and disabled seniors. In July of last year, we held a Denver Cruiser ride to support our Cares and Shares initiative where an estimated 850 people rode bikes throughout downtown and ending at Jackson’s Hole where a lucky ticket holder won a bicycle donated by KCP. We also helped with a Kids Day conducted by the Greenway Foundation at the LoDo Children’s Playground, which benefited LoDo Cares’ Parks initiative. We are a very active organization and it’s rewarding to see how LoDo Cares is really making a difference.”

LoDo Cares coordinates the maintenance for the Children’s Playground for Denver’s Parks and Recreation Department. The group also hosts LoDo Angels who bring hot meals, sends cards, and lends assistance to neighbors in need. The LoDo Young Professionals organization lends their support and held a meeting in conjunction with the LoDo Young Professionals group at The Tavern in LoDo to benefit LoDo Cares. From their many efforts, it is clear that LoDo Cares is a group that binds the community!

The holidays are a special time for LoDo Cares. Its legacy event is the Barth Holiday Dinner which, for the past 20 years, consists of coordinating food donations from the amazing restaurants that flourish in the LoDo area which is served to the Barth residents. In 2011, LoDo Cares was thrilled to be able to serve a hot holiday meal comprised of entre items from the following restaurants: The Keg, Vesta Dipping Grill, McCormick’s, the LoDo Tavern (Tavern Hospitality Group), The Celtic Tavern, Coohills, Cho Lon, Jax Fish House, and City Bakery.

“The residents are offered a menu to choose their dinner items, including everything from ham and turkey to cranberries and Brussels Sprouts, so the restaurants really go all out for this event,” said Theye. “As you can see, LoDo Cares is a very active group staffed by some very caring and talented people who genuinely care about the community.”
