Washington, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) joined a bipartisan group of 44 current and former Senators and 163 current and former House members in filing an amicus brief in support of the Obama administration’s historic ‘Clean Power Plan’ (CPP). The CPP will reduce carbon pollution and address climate change, save consumers $155 billion by 2030, create jobs, and prevent 90,000 childhood asthma attacks through 2030.

“We must work to reduce the serious environmental threats resulting from climate change by promoting and incentivizing energy efficiency measures and decreasing our dependence on fossil fuels,” said Perlmutter. “That’s why I support the President’s Climate Action Plan, which includes the Clean Power Plan and new Ozone reduction standards, as well as investments like the Wind Production Tax Credit.”

As co-chair of the New Democrat Coalition Energy Task Force, Perlmutter is a leading supporter of congressional efforts to address global climate change. Perlmutter supports a balanced, all-of-the-above energy plan which includes investing in clean energy sources and further development of alternative energy like wind, solar, biofuels, geothermal, and other renewable energy sources.

The 7th Congressional District is home to the nation’s premier National Renewable Energy Lab which is on the forefront of developing clean and renewable energy technologies. Perlmutter has continued to support research and development of energy efficient technologies in all facets of our economy by harnessing the power of our research institutions and the American entrepreneurial spirit and creating the jobs of the future.

The amicus brief argues that the CPP rule is consistent with the text, structure, and legislative history of the Clean Air Act (CAA). Further, it argues that the rule is consistent with the goal of the CAA to “protect the Nation’s air resources so as to promote the public health and welfare and the productive capacity of its population.”

The CPP is currently being challenged in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in West Virginia et al. v. Environmental Protection Agency.
