The Justice Department announced today that the owners and manager of the Westland Apartments, a 28-unit apartment complex in Lakewood, Colorado, have agreed to pay $75,000 to settle a lawsuit alleging discrimination against families with children in violation of the Fair Housing Act.  The settlement must still be approved by the U.S. District Court of the District of Colorado

U.S. Representative Mike Coffman (R-CO) today introduced the First-Time Homebuyer Savings Account Act (H.R. 5575) along with U.S. Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) and U.S. Representative Barbara Comstock (R-VA). The act would amend the federal tax code to create 529-style savings accounts for first time homebuyers.

These resolutions express the sense of the House of Representatives that a carbon and oil tax, respectively, would be detrimental to American families and businesses. Both of these taxes would regressively impact Coloradans who rely on these energy sources for heating their homes, driving to work, and powering the small businesses they own.

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet announced that six Colorado housing agencies have won a total of $412,668 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Veterans Affairs Support Housing (VASH) program to help veterans and their families access affordable housing.

A new survey finds that Colorado voters strongly oppose the idea of raising interest rates on consumer loans. Opposition was widespread among voters across lines of race, party affiliation, and household income, but the intensity of opposition was especially strong among voters of color and those who had served in the military. Overall, 51% of voters said they would be "much more likely" to vote against a legislator who voted to increase interest rates. That number rose to 58% of military service-members or veterans, and 62% of non-whites.

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today joined his Senate colleagues in support of an amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations bill that boosts funding for wind energy. The measure adds $15.4 million to the $80 million already included in the bill to bring it on par with the funds appropriated in recent years. $30 million of that total is slated for the National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden.

In an effort to continue his push to incentivize clean energy and job growth, Representative Jared Polis (D-CO) introduced the Solar Expansion Distributed Generation Exponentially (EDGE) Act. The bill will promote investment in small scale distributed generation solar projects, especially residential installation, across the U.S., and encourage long-term job growth in the solar industry

The Senate today adopted an amendment introduced by U.S. Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Johnny Isakson (R-GA) to establish more practical mortgage lending processes on a voluntary basis, encourage investments in energy-efficient homebuilding, and help create tens of thousands of construction jobs. The amendment is based on the bipartisan Sensible Accounting to Value Energy (SAVE) Act that they've previously introduced.
