Congressman Salazar announces $2,721,000 in federal funding to help community members find affordable housing in the Pueblo area
Funding will expand the supply of decent, affordable housing for moderate to very low income families
WASHINGTON, DC – June 14, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Congressman John Salazar announced $2,721,000 in federal funding to help moderate to very low income residents in the Pueblo area find housing. The funding comes in the form of two federal grants; one Community Development Block Grant for $1,799,904 and a HOME grant for $921,097. In 2009 Congressman Salazar was appointed to serve on the House Appropriations Committee which oversees the distribution of federal appropriation funding. The $2,721,000 is going to the Pueblo Department of Housing and Citizen Services.
The Community Development Block Grant program provides annual grants to states and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate income persons. The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low and very low income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
Congressman Salazar offered the following comment on the funding:
“We all know that it is a real challenge for many of Pueblo’s low and moderate income residents to find affordable housing. Hopefully this funding will help the Pueblo Department of Housing and Citizen Services in its ongoing efforts to provide folks with safe and stable housing. I’m proud to support funding for projects like these, projects that help maintain and strengthen the fabric of our community.”
On the funding, Ada Rivera Clark, Director of Housing and Citizen Services for the City of Pueblo offered the following comment:
Funding will expand the supply of decent, affordable housing for moderate to very low income families
“The CDBG and HOME grants that we receive from HUD, allows the Department of Housing and Citizen Services to fund programs and projects that provide Puebloans with an opportunity to live in safe, affordable, and decent housing in economically stable and safe neighborhoods. Many of the activities undertaken would not be possible if not for these funds.”
