State Construction Data Now Available in Visual Format
DENVER, Colo. – March 31, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — A new series of fact sheets issued by the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) provides energy efficiency program managers with a visual snapshot of new building and renovation activity in the $11.3 billion regional commercial construction industry, broken down by each of six southwest states and the region overall.
The two-page fact sheets translate raw data from CMD Group into pie charts and graphs that show which counties in each state have the most construction activity, which types of commercial buildings are being constructed or renovated, project square footage and other information. Fact sheets were prepared for Ariz., Colo., NM, Nev., Utah and Wyo. and the region.
“Program managers needed information on commercial building construction in a usable format,” said Lauren Smith, author of the reports and buildings efficiency associate at SWEEP. “For instance, it is easy to see on the fact sheets that shopping centers are the most common type of new commercial construction in Colorado and second only to government offices for renovations.”
That information can help energy efficiency program managers target specific types of buildings and construction activity, Smith said. The fact sheets are targeted to staff at state energy offices, building departments and utilities; energy efficiency consultants and organizations that design and manage commercial energy efficiency programs.
A graph of an annual tally of new construction projects in the Southwest over nine years shows that the industry hasn’t completely rebounded from the recession, with half as many new projects in 2013 as in 2008. The number of renovation projects, on the other hand, hit a new peak in 2013.
