The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced it is charging a group of Colorado landlords with housing discrimination for allegedly relegating families with children to apartments in the rear building of an apartment complex. HUD charged property owners Roger Loecher and Eileen Loecher, and on-site manager Miriam Yehudah, after fair housing testing discovered illegal “steering” was taking place based upon the tenant’s family status. Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today expressed frustration that reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is not included in the current stopgap funding measure and urged Congress to reauthorize the LWCF before it expires next week. LWCF supports the conservation of parks, open spaces, and wildlife habitat for the benefit of hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation.

In advance of Congress’ vote to fund the Highway Trust Fund, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) sent a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and Deputy Secretary Victor Mendez outlining transportation priorities for Colorado and the 7^thCongressional District. The letter also includes several recommendations to better invest in our nation’s infrastructure and grow our economy.

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet and a bipartisan group of 52 senators sent a letter to Majority Leader McConnell and Minority Leader Reid encouraging them to take action on funding the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). Authorization for the LWCF will expire on September 30, 2015 if no action is taken. Established in 1964, the LWCF is one of America's most successful federal conservation programs, conserving irreplaceable lands and improving outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the nation.

John Hickenlooper today announced the state’s commitment of more than $100 million over the next four years to enhance Colorado’s ability to become the best state to ride a bike. “Our goal is to make Colorado the best state for biking in the country,” said Hickenlooper. “These investments will help fuel our economic growth and tourism industry, move us toward a cleaner environment and advance our goal of being the healthiest state in the nation.”

Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet applauded the Small Business Administration's (SBA) announcement today that low-interest disaster loans are now available to businesses and residents affected by landslides that began after April of 2015. Businesses and nonprofits can borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged real estate, machinery, equipment, and other assets. Disaster loans of up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair damaged real estate and up to $40,000 is available to replace personal property.

Representatives Diana DeGette and Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico have called for an oversight hearing on the Gold King Mine spill that released 3 million gallons of wastewater into the Animas and San Juan Rivers. Both members serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee, and Rep. DeGette is Ranking Member on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
