The funding was made available through the 2010 Omnibus Appropriations Act. Congressman Salazar serves on the House Appropriations Committee which oversees the distribution of federal appropriation funding. The $139,962 is going to the Grand Junction Housing Authority which has partnered with the Grand Junction VA Medical Center to provide rental assistance vouchers under a supportive housing program for homeless veterans

The funding is part of Housing Assistance Council's HUD-funded Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP), which supports land acquisition or infrastructure development by nonprofit groups such as Colorado Housing Inc. that are operating self-help housing programs.

August 26, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) -- Gov. Bill Ritter announced funding for three projects in rural Colorado communities that will provide citizens with better access to cleaner water and essential medical services. Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-R) funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will pay for $2.8 million in work to improve wastewater systems in Boone and Red Cliff and assist with a medical facility expansion in Bent County.
