Udall, Colorado Delegation Urges HUD to Expedite Flood Recovery Assistance

WASHINGTON, D.C. - September 26, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- U.S. Senator Mark Udall and the Colorado Congressional delegation urged the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today to expedite assistance for rebuilding efforts after the recent floods that devastated communities along Colorado’s Front Range. The lawmakers wrote to HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan asking him to make disaster recovery funds available through the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program, which would supplement assistance already provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration (SBA)

ATTORNEY GENERAL SUTHERS DEMANDS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT END SEQUESTRATION OF FUNDS FOR RURAL AREAS

DENVER - September 25, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- Colorado Attorney General John Suthers has written to U.S. Secretary of the Department Agriculture and all members of the Colorado Congressional delegation demanding that the federal government end the sequestration of payments made to western states that are available to rural counties with national forest lands. The funds are owed to the states in lieu of revenue from timber sales on federal lands and help finance rural school programs, roads and wildfire-related education or wildland fire mitigation assistance to homeowners.

The bill was introduced by Representative Jared Polis (CO-02) in June and Senators Udall and Bennet introduced companion legislation, S. 1305, in the Senate last week. This bill seeks to convey 40 acres of the Lake Hill property in the White River National Forest to Summit County, Colorado. Summit County plans to use the site for affordable housing and proceeds from the sale would go to Region 2 of the U.S. Forest Service for much-needed capital improvement and maintenance of Forest Service facilities.
